The C2D wants to accelerate the competitiveness of agricultural and agri-food SMEs

The evolution of the TRANSFAGRI Programme dedicated to them was at the heart of a supervisory mission.

Between difficulties of formalisation, support problems, the need for capacity building and difficulties of access to financial services and products, and the multiplicity of support, Cameroonian Agricultural/Agro-Food SMEs face a series of obstacles that hinder their efficiency and compromise their development.

In order to enable them to fully play their role as the driving force of the Cameroonian economy, Cameroon and France, through the C2D, have initiated the integrated TRANSFAGRI programme. This programme, which is a continuation of the activities initiated as part of the support for rural businesses, aims to provide concrete solutions to the problems faced by SMEs. Its allocation agreement was signed in June 2018 for CFAF 17.7 billion. It has four main areas of intervention, namely i) support SMEs through APME in structuring their activities and in the process of formalising companies, ii) offer these SMEs financial services adapted to their needs through the SNFI, iii) strengthen the capacities of companies through the MINEFOP Training Centres and iv) federate all programmes in charge of the rural sector within a platform housed in the General Directorate of Economy of MINEPAT and the Ministry of Finance in order to better orient State support in favour of beneficiaries.

Pillar of the C2D within the framework of the development and competitiveness of Cameroonian agricultural and agri-food SMEs, this programme, which aims to provide local economic actors (ICG/COOP, VSE, SME/SMI, etc.) with an ecosystem of financial and non-financial services to enable them to be more competitive, is one of the priorities of the third and C2D.

It was to ensure that it was properly implemented that an AFD Paris supervision mission led by François Giraudy visited Cameroon from 8 to 16 November 2018.
